Here’s my review of 3 sauces from award-winning Lucky Dog Hot Sauce. It’s easy to see why they have racked up so many wins. These are all hearty sauces with bold, honest flavors. All of 3 these Lucky Dog hot sauces have definitely been added to my favorites list and I look forward to trying all the others.

Lucky Dog Extra Mild Lightly Smoked Pepper SauceExtra Mild Lightly Smoked Pepper Sauce

The purple label reads ‘classic lightly smoked Jalapeño pepper sauce, loaded with garlic and just a hint of Hickory. Naturally sweetened with apples & figs’, a nice touch in today’s over-sugared world. This is a great tasting sauce. You can definitely taste the smokiness and garlic. I’ve tried it on roasted chicken, carne asada, and taco salad. I really like that nice smoke flavor it adds to everything. Food’s Best Friend is right!

Taste: You immediately taste (and smell) the smoked jalapeños and onions. I like that this sauce is not overly vinegary. You can taste all these great flavors and then you feel just the right amount of heat.

Heat Level: The label says Extra Mild, but I think it packs some nice heat, a bit more than what I’d expect for extra mild. That’s certainly not a bad thing, but it just made me wonder what I was in for with the Extra Hot! ; ) It seems to create more of a “back of the throat” heat rather than singeing the tongue.

Texture: This sauce slightly thick. It pours nicely without being overly runny. You can see small bits of garlic and onion.

Ingredients: Green Jalapeño peppers, distilled white vinegar, onions, organic apple sauce, garlic, carrot juice, water, carrots, hickory smoked sea salt, mission figs, lime justice concentrate.

Hot Fire-Roasted Pepper Sauce
OrangeLabelThe orange label reads Habanero, Jalapeño & Serrano peppers with roasted garlic.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Taste: Slightly fruity, but not too much so. This is definitely a savory hot sauce that would be great on steak! I can taste the Serrano and Habanero peppers, along with the roasted garlic and that is making this sauce very interesting and tasty. The roasted quality gives a lot of character without going too far. Also a touch tangy while not being too vinegary. One thing I’m noticing about Lucky Dog hot sauces is the onions. They all have a perfect amount of onion flavor. I am a big fan of habanero sauces, and this one does not disappoint.

Heat Level: It’s hot, but not too hot. The mouth burn does last for a bit, but lets you keep going!

Texture: This sauce slightly thick. It pours nicely. Not too runny. You can see small bits of red pepper.

Ingredients: Apple cider vinegar, onions, roasted chile peppers, roasted garlic, chili peppers, water, carrot juice, sugar, dried chili peppers, sea salt, carrots, lime juice from concentrate.

Extra Hot Fire-Roasted Pepper Sauce
BlackLabelThe black label reads ‘Trinidad Scorpion & Jalapeño peppers, apples, California black mission figs & loaded with garlic.’ It also contains Ghost Pepper sea salt.  Now I don’t typically go for super crazy hot sauces because I find most are just unbearably hot with no flavor. But judging by the first 2 Lucky Dog sauces, I figured that wouldn’t be the case here.

Taste: Wow! This is a great tasting sauce. It has the perfect balance of heat and flavor. Slightly fruity, but not too much. This is a savory sauce. Can taste the garlic. I think this sauce would be good on just about anything.

Heat Level: Not as hot as I thought it would be. I think this one is a perfect heat level for me. The pleasant burn lingers for a while.

Texture: This sauce slightly thick. It pours nicely. Not too runny. You can see lots of small bits of ingredients.

Ingredients: Onions, apple cider vinegar, water, organic apple sauce, jalapeño peppers, garlic, scorpion peppers, dried figs, sugar, sea salt, Ghost Pepper sea salt, lime juice concentrate.
